WORKSHOP – 2:00pm – 4:00pm
Learn the mesmerizing art of Throat Singing with world-renowned throat singers from the Republic of Altai. In Altai the various styles of throat singing are known as kai and include the velvety kargyraa (the lowest style of throat singing), mesmerizing khoomei (middle range throat singing), and melodic sygyt (highest range throat singing).
The workshop is hosted by four award-winning, internationally renowned artists - Urmat Yntaev of the Jabak clan (recognized as a People’s Throat Singer (“Kaichy”) of the Altai Republic), Alash Topchin of the Kobok clan (a master of multiple styles of throat singing), Eduard Sogonokov also of the Kobok clan (a distinguished graduate of the Altai Republic College of Culture and Arts, where he studied vocal performance) and Aidyn Orsulov of the Saal clan (a descendant of a long lineage of Altai throat singers, is especially gifted in the epic genre).
