About the Music
Over the span of their thirty-year collaboration, R. Carlos Nakai, William Eaton & Will Clipman have engaged in an ever-evolving improvisational trialogue to generate their collective sound. That creative process is documented on five studio recordings for Canyon Records: Feather, Stone & Light; Red Wind; the GRAMMY® nominated In a Distant Place (with Tibetan flutist Nawang Khechog); the GRAMMY® nominated Dancing into Silence; and Spiral Rendezvous, which was released on August 19th, 2022. The trio has toured regionally, nationally and internationally, creating living soundscapes that invite their audiences to be present at the moment of creation as they conjure a sonic vibration that is both intimate and vast. Above all, they have a good time!
About the Artists
R. Carlos Nakai is the world’s premier performer and composer of the Native American flute. He has released forty albums on the Canyon Records label, including two Gold Records for Earth Spirit and Canyon Trilogy and a Platinum Record for Canyon Trilogy, and has sold 4.5 million units worldwide, earning eleven GRAMMY® nominations along the way. Nakai has spearheaded an international renaissance of the Native American flute, performing and recording the instrument not only in its traditional solo role but in classical, jazz, New Age, contemporary instrumental and cross-cultural indigenous fusion contexts, while touring throughout the United States and around the globe. He is the author of the best-selling book The Art of the Native American Flute.
William Eaton designs and builds unique multi-stringed instruments as the Director of the internationally acclaimed Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in Phoenix, Arizona. A four-time GRAMMY® nominee, Eaton has recorded seventeen albums for Canyon Records including four as the leader of The William Eaton Ensemble, and has produced other award-winning albums at his own Wisdom Tree Studio in Sedona, Arizona. He has composed for the Nebraska Chamber Orchestra, The Nouveau West Chamber Orchestra, and The Amadeus Trio, among others. With his wife Christine, he has been Co-Director of The Old Town Center for the Arts in Cottonwood, Arizona since 2005, and is a 2015 recipient of The Arizona Governor’s Arts Award.
Will Clipman began playing his father’s drums and his mother’s piano at the age of three, and has mastered a pan-global palette of ethnic percussion in addition to the traditional drumkit. He has recorded over seventy albums, over thirty-five of those for the Canyon Records label, earning seven GRAMMY® nominations including his solo album Pathfinder, his duo album Awakening the Fire with R. Carlos Nakai, his trio album Dancing into Silence with Nakai, Eaton & Clipman, and his quartet album People of Peace with RCNQ. He has toured throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as in Canada, Germany, Russia and Morocco.
